60 Gal Tank Evolution
Born On Date 12.3.04

I bought this 60 Gallon Flatback Hex tank over 9 years ago when I first got married and am just NOW? setting it up??  I have run a Nano Reef successfully and not so successfully for about 10years before this. All this time I was slowly learning and making mistakes as I went along of course,  but this year,  I dedicated myself never to Kill Marine life due soley to MY ignorance anymore, and if there was something I could do on my end I decieded I was going to educate myself more on the hobby.

So I started doing research online mostly at Reef Central where there is a TON of information and great members that are always willing to help out with their experiences.  The site has great options, forums galleries, calculators, just about anything you would ever need to learn about this hobby is somewhere in there..I started to read up on this hobby, about skmmers, water testing and parameters, sumps, lighting, and finally filtration. I read on and on for the past year on how to keep stuff alive. Thankfully, I have had the same fish in my tank for over two years now in my little nano which is an accomplishment for me.

The biggest thing I learned and added to my system was getting rid of undergravel filters and adding an external slot overflow to my little nano.. This was the dry run for the tank above, it was very successfu and I was really happy with the HIBO on my nano so I went for it on the larger tank too.. Also the second biggest factor to my recent sucess over the years is adding and creating my own line of Skimmers to my system... The “Poseidon2 Vortex Skimmer” was born about a year ago, mainly due to my sticker shock at prices of skimmers and my propensity to be handy with tools and having a lot of tools on hand,  i figured I could build one? 50 Skimmer sales later it’s still working great!

Since adding the skimmer, Not one fish has died.

I hope you enjoy this journal and coming along for the ride WITH me as I build this larger tank
